Doly Akter,
20, weaves our global social fabric with her delightful dreams in
Rupnagar slum, Dhaka, Bangladesh. At her teen, together, with her
friends, they have touched many lives with life's little lessons. Thanks
to UNICEF's generous support! Not only that, she flew to New York to
address the United Nations' General Assembly to tell her tale how she
can do without when we do not dare to do being so powerful and
resourceful.
From her slum life, Dolly shows us life is really about helping people
and uplifting our humanity. As Dolly prepares for university education, I
do not know what university can teach her more than what she has
already mastered to serve...! I do not know whether university education
will make or break her. Will university learn any lessons from her life
story - what type of social fabric are we weaving in our global village
with extreme economic inequality?
A generation is in competition with growing greed to grab the lion share
of our global resources and sustain slum systems. Today, 5% people
controls 95% of our world's total wealth. So, building a better
tomorrow, far from reality, is a shared responsibility - we and
university must learn from slum life and Doly's dedicated dreams! We
have given a very little to elevate global poverty, still Dolly's smile
outshines and she serves in silence as our quest for greed and quality
lifestyle continues.
I support UNICEF's global parents programs with hope. In the 1970's,
during my childhood, passionately, I promoted UNICEF's programs. We
appreciate Unicef's commitments to make a difference through
Doly's dreams and drives. Dolly has been doing her shared
responsibility by serving her neighbourhood. Are we doing our part?

difference to build a better tomorrow with our shared responsibility.
